Arshavin Plays On

Andrei Arshavin became a free agent after being released by the Russian club Kuban Krasnodar on February of the ongoing year, but it did not take a long time for the 34 year old attacker to join another club as he is the latest high profile player to join Kuban Krasnodar.

The veteran player penned a 1 year long deal and this can be extended to 2 years depending on his performances and the impact that he makes during his opening spell with the Russian Premier League club.

"On my own initiative, the contract includes the clause that the club has the right to terminate it at any time. We actually agreed straight away on the terms of the contract even at the first meeting."

"After that I trained with the club and waited for the president's final decision. I am very grateful to him and head coach Aleksandr Borodyuk for having given me the chance to stay in football." Andrei Arshavin said as he revealed details concerning his transfer to Kairat.

When high profile players reach a certain time in their career and a particularly elevated age, making a move to the Major League Soccer is something that has been turning into a trend as more players are doing it but Andrei Arshavin opted to do something different as he joined a lesser known club in Kazakhstan.

There had been rumours that he would retire from football altogether, supposedly to take up his interest in cricket, which he developed whilst he was living in North London with Arsenal. According to his friends, he follows wants to get involved in a team that plays County Cricket, and closely monitors the cricket betting and odds at StanJames.

Kairat decided to secure his services as the club was in need of reinforcements and Arshavin was snatched up as someone who can boost the chances of Kairat winning their domestic league after they almost managed to do it in 2015 (they had to settle with the 2nd spot as Astana won it).

With the arrival of Ashavin, Kairat are expected to compete with Astana, but taking into consideration that the Russian player struggled to make consistently high level performances with his former club Kuban Krasnodar, it might take some time before Arshavin can actually begin to make a positive impact for his latest club.
