Manchester United could sell David de Gea on one condition

Manchester United could consider the potential sale of David de Gea to Real Madrid in the summer, should they receive Gareth Bale in a player-plus-cash deal. The Spain international has been constantly linked with a switch to Los Blancos since his failed transfer in the summer of 2015.

According to Don Balon, De Gea remains a probable target for Los Blancos in the summer with club president Florentino Perez planning an overhaul of the squad. Athletic Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga had initially been touted as the prime target to bolster the goalkeeping department, but the interest has since diminished with the Spaniard deciding to sign a fresh deal with the Basque club.

As a result, the European champions seem to have revived their interest in De Gea, and they are prepared to offer Bale as a makeweight in order to push through a summer move. Despite the speculation, United are likely to be reluctant to part ways with De Gea, given the leaps and bounds he has developed during his six-year spell at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has remained mum over the contract speculation of late, but he has repeatedly spoken fonds words about the club, who have been supportive since his early Premier League days where he had the tendency to make errors between the sticks.

De Gea's current contract with Manchester United runs until June 2019, and the club stand in a reasonable position to snub transfer interest in the summer, given the Spaniard has an extension clause on his deal, which would extend his stay by another 12 months.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford has pretty much filled the void of a world-class winger in the club's ranks, and Mourinho may probably focus on the midfield and defensive departments, which is likely to require further strengthening to close the gap on Manchester City.
